Gitcoin Grants  • Declassified
The funding platform behind Ethereum's public-goods grants program

Background

Gitcoin serves as a critical pillar in the blockchain ecosystem by organizing and funding grant opportunities for developers and open-source pioneers. For its 24th funding round, known as GG24, the organization needed to transform how it communicated complex grant structures to its highly motivated community of users and stakeholders. The previous reliance on asynchronous education and live support across various social channels had become a bottleneck for the grants management team.

Challenge

The primary challenge for L+R was to synthesize an enormous volume of technical data and procedural steps into a clear, visually organized educational experience. The grants manager was overwhelmed by manual community support and the constant creation of process documents to explain shifting grant initiatives. We needed to design a flexible structure that could accommodate emerging grant categories in real time without sacrificing design integrity or requiring a complete overhaul as content evolved.

Solution

Our strategy team worked closely with the grants manager to conduct a deep dive into specific pain points, marrying their institutional knowledge with a streamlined digital product experience. We implemented a rapid feedback loop between our design and engineering departments to ensure the platform remained agile as funding requirements changed. To maximize visual impact while maintaining budget efficiency, we integrated a bespoke no-code hero animation that established a new brand aesthetic for the site’s future templates.

Impact

The platform launched at a critical juncture, featuring a technical "hook" that enabled automatic updates and eliminated the need for manual data entry on external platforms like Notion. This architectural decision saved the grants manager hundreds of hours previously spent on community Q&A and education. By delivering a scalable, user-centric resource, we provided Gitcoin with a permanent digital asset that eliminates the need to reinvent their process for future funding rounds.

The Bottom Line

Gitcoin Grants helped make decentralized funding more accessible to communities supporting open-source work. The larger challenge is turning complex financial mechanics into participation people can understand and trust. L+R's role is to make new technology useful through strategic design, technical execution, and meticulous craft, using AI as a focused collaborator instead of a headline. If your platform depends on trust at scale, start with the people who will use it.
