RapidPro is UNICEF's open-source software platform designed to build and scale mobile applications globally. By utilizing interactive SMS messaging flows, the system enables critical data collection in remote regions that may lack traditional internet infrastructure. This technical foundation allows for real-time insights into humanitarian needs, providing a scalable solution for local governments and international partners to reach underserved populations through simple mobile connectivity.

As RapidPro approached its tenth anniversary, the organization recognized that partners were not fully utilizing the platform's flexible features. Stakeholders were not exploring the full range of potential for innovation within the platform, which limited the scope and impact of new projects. L+R was tasked with refreshing the web presence and brand identity to better communicate this untapped potential and inspire more creative use cases across the global humanitarian network.

Our strategy and design teams collaborated to refresh the website into a landing page that centered human storytelling through case studies that emphasized the impact behind the technology. L+R showcased the platform’s history of global impact through a globe interaction that visualized the UNICEF offices around the world that use RapidPro, and lowered the barrier to entry and engagement through clear CTAs and onboarding steps. We also refreshed the brand by modernizing the logo proportions and refining the color palette, establishing a contemporary aesthetic that remains recognizable to long-standing partners.

The revitalized platform launch lined up with the 10th anniversary, successfully communicating the brand with its mission of social progress and data-driven work. The new website serves as the primary vehicle for communicating impact, fostering a more engaged community of creators who are now better equipped to leverage the technology for local needs. This unified digital presence continues to support RapidPro as a thriving resource for humanitarian response and international development worldwide.

UNICEF RapidPro needed a clearer digital story for a platform already supporting global humanitarian communication. The broader challenge is making powerful infrastructure easier for partners to understand, trust, and put to work. L+R brings strategy, UX, brand, and engineering together so mission-critical systems can communicate both scale and human impact. If your public-service platform needs sharper adoption, let's make the value easier to see.
